3 Tips for Moving and Packing in A Day!
Packing and moving out of your comfort zone to a completely different and unfamiliar place is in itself daunting. Another daunting task is to pack your entire house in a day—or on a time crunch.
The top fear of most people moving away is their possessions breaking during the move—which is the reason why they spend so much time and effort in packing and repacking. When you’re on a time crunch and you’ve already procrastinated until the last day to pack, the only important task for you is to get moving.
The following are some helpful tips for people who are on a time crunch to pack and move their entire home:
Make a Checklist
Whether you’re moving in a day or have months to do so, a concise checklist will get you through the entire process in a breeze. The night before the packing day, consider going around the house and make a list of all the items you’ll be taking with you. Make a list of items for every room.
Be Ruthless — Throw Away or Donate
Being on a time crunch can be a blessing in disguise. It gives you little time to decide whether an item needs to be thrown away, donated or kept. If you don’t see yourself using a certain piece of clothing in the future, donate it without a second thought. If there are broken frames lying around in your home that you planned to get fixed, throw them away. They are an unnecessary burden and you aren’t going to get them fixed any time soon; you know that.
You can also make separate boxes for ‘Items to Be Taken’, ‘Donation’, ‘Trash’ and a ‘Maybe’ box. Only add a ‘Maybe’ box when you’re not sure if an item can be donated or if it should be thrown away.
Do not, under any circumstance, keep the Maybe Box for “These Are Items I Could Take”—you will only end up creating clutter for yourself.
Pack Room by Room; The Kitchen First!
If you had a lot of time on your hands, we’d suggest that you should pack your kitchen in the end. But considering you only have a day, we’d suggest that you tackle the kitchen first thing in the morning because that’s the hardest room to pack.
After you’ve packed the kitchen, pack one room at a time. Do not try to do the entire house at once—you’ll only be sitting in your living room in the middle of the day, pulling your hair out. Pick a room and start from the day, go shelf by shelf and drawer by drawer. The more you keep yourself organized and in control, the easier it will be to pack your house in a day.
